The winner of Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month award for March is Alexis Mac Allister.
For the first time in his Reds career, the No. 10 takes home the trophy after winning a vote on Liverpoolfc.com, with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz coming in second and third, respectively.
During that time, Mac Allister was a revelation for Jürgen Klopp’s team, contributing three goals and just as many assists from his five starts.
“Thank you very much, it is a nice feeling,” the 25-year-old remarked after accepting the prize at the AXA Training Center. I express my gratitude to the supporters for selecting me to get this trophy.
“It’s something nice, but at the same time it’s thanks to my teammates because they played an important role.”
March started off well for Liverpool as Mac Allister supplied the cross that Darwin Nunez flicked in at the 99th minute to earn the team a thrilling Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest.
After that, he scored in the Emirates FA Cup match against Manchester United after defeating Sparta Prague and Manchester City via penalties.
With a Carlsberg Player of the Match performance against his old team Brighton & Hove Albion, the midfielder concluded the month by setting up Salah’s game-winning goal in the second half.
“There are two moments that I will never forget,” the Argentinian responded when asked about his favorite moments of the month.
“The first is the penalty in a crucial game versus Man City. I really like to take pens, therefore I had to accept the obligation. Thus, that was a significant occasion.
“And Darwin’s assist versus Nottingham was, I believe, something unique for everyone. Thus, these two instances.”
Early in April, Mac Allister’s March exploits continued as he scored a spectacular Kop-end finish in the 3-1 loss to Sheffield United.
Many people compared such effort to Steven Gerrard’s daring goal against Olympiacos in the Champions League two decades prior.
He declared, “It was definitely instinctive.” “We needed to score a goal because the score was tied at one, so I immediately chose to shoot when I had the ball in that position without giving it any thought. It was a good goal, and it was an important one.
“Being compared to [Gerrard’s goal] is an honor… not in my play, but merely in the goal! He’s a legend for this club and someone I truly like, so it’s truly an honor.
“But I’m trying to do my own my way and my own path, and I feel really good at this club.”
