After losing to Naomi Osaka in the 2018 US Open final, Serena Williams marked her return with a recent friendly match with her sister Venus at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. The final result, Serena lost 1-2 with scores of 4-6, 6-3 and 10-8 respectively.
In the post-match interview, the reporters once again recalled the scandal last September between Serena and referee Carlos Ramos. This makes the former world number 1 look bored.
“I’m not avoiding anything. However, I don’t have time to bring up that incident. I’ve shared my opinion on it, people have been discussing this topic for months. Good.” should aim for bigger and better things,” said the 37-year-old tennis player.
At the 2018 US Open, referee Carlos Ramos admonished Serena’s coach, Mr. Patrick Mouratoglou, for giving instructions from the stands – something not allowed at a Grand Slam tournament. This made Serena “mad”, smashing her racket on the court and calling referee Ramos a “thief”. It is known that this incident caused the tennis player who owns 23 Grand Slam titles to be fined $17,000 from the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
