Now that the Los Angeles Lakers have JJ Redick in place as their new head coach and successor to Darvin Ham, the storied franchise has a lot of work to do in order to prepare this roster to take on the heavyweights in the Western Conference next season and beyond.
Although the team awaits LeBron James’ decision on whether he’ll opt out of his contract, the Lakers brass will head into the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday night exploring a lot of different opportunities, from trading their first-round pick (No. 17) or bringing in the best player available once on the clock.
With James and Anthony Davis rumored to want the team to make a blockbuster trade to acquire another star player, general manager Rob Pelinka will likely be working the phones tonight in hopes of making a deal, and it appears that one of the team’s youngest players will be on the trade block.
According to Anthony Irwin of Lakers Daily, the Lakers’ first-round draft pick last year, Jalen Hood-Schifino, has been involved in trade talks this summer via NBA Central.
Unfortunately for Hood-Schifino, he didn’t get much of a chance to prove his worth to the team during his rookie season due to the lack of playing time and eventually going down with an injury, as he had to undergo a back procedure, which ended his first year in the NBA.
Despite Hood-Schifino’s lack of opportunity, he’s still a valuable asset, which it appears the Lakers are dangling in trade talks.
