Mike Tyson was one of the most feared heavyweights of his era.
And one of his defining moments came when he faced Pinklon Thomas.
Tyson was still in the early parts of his career at the age of 21. While that may have been the case, he was still the WBC and WBA champion.
Standing in his way was former WBC champion Thomas. Tyson was undefeated, while Thomas only had a single loss. Everything was on the line, as the winner would be crowned undisputed.
In the opening rounds, Tyson unleashed a left and a right hook on Thomas’ chin. It was clear that Tyson was going for the knockout, as Thomas staggered back to the corner after the first round.
Things did not get any better from there. Thomas was only buying time with his jab-and-grab strategy, which received a chorus of boos from the audience.
And the pressure told as Tyson got his man in the sixth round. Tyson connected with a left hook and a 15-punch combination to stop Thomas as it was all over.
And by the looks of it, Tyson has remained fond of that victory.
“Pinklon Thomas [was my favorite KO]. Because I hit him with like, 15, 16 punches on the chin to bring him down.
He took a totally tremendous amount of punishment. I hit him flush 17 times. He took it all. He didn’t get back up, but it took around 17 punches,” Tyson
