Mike Tyson delivers intimidating message to Jake Paul, with boxers angling for pro rules p.2

Mike Tyson may be 57 years old now, but he is every bit as intimidating as he was in his prime.

During the montage, Tyson was seen doing strength training with a medicine ball and sparring with a trainer while looking as fast as ever with some powerful-looking punches.

The boxing spectacle between the former heavyweight champion Tyson and social-media-star-turned-boxer Paul was announced earlier this month, with the two set to collide at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium, on July 20. The fight will be broadcast live on Netflix, as the uber-popular streaming service looks to branch out into live sporting events.

Meanwhile, the rules for the bout remain shrouded in mystery, though one report states that both combatants are pushing for it to be under professional rules and not exhibition, which was at first expected.

Veteran combat sports reporter Ariel Helwani said on The MMA Hour podcast that Tyson and Paul both would prefer a pro bout and that headgear will not be used by either fighter.

“They’re still working on a few important details. Is it pro or exhibition? They want pro but that’s up to the Texas Commission. I’m told heavyweight rounds, they’re working on that as well. I’m told there is absolutely no headgear involved,” Helwani said.

“This is going to look like a typical boxing match but is it an exhibition like Tyson’s last fight against Roy Jones in 2020, or is it just a normal pro heavyweight fight with no strings attached.”

Tyson’s most recent fight against Roy Jones Jr. was an exhibition match that was contested over eight two-minute rounds and ended as a controversial split-decision draw, as Tyson landed far more blows than Jones.

On the undercard of the event, Paul took on former NBA player Nate Robinson and floored the Slam Dunk champion in the second round. The victory helped propel Paul even more into the spotlight and he has amassed a 9-1 record as a boxer, including a win over Ryan Bourland earlier this month.

“It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard. Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons,” Paul said in a statement.

“My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion ever, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time. This will be the fight of a lifetime.”
