Women’s basketball has seen its biggest spike in popularity over the last two years given the increased marketability of the WNBA and stars like Caitlin Clark becoming household names in the basketball community. The WNBA will now partner with the most recognizable name in sneakers, Michael Jordan, as the two partners will release an Air Jordan 3 silhouette and colorway for the first time. With the growing platform of the WNBA and the new crop of stars coming into the league, it’s only right that the biggest name in basketball start following suit with their releases centered around the women’s game. In their first collaboration ever, Jordan Brand will release one of their most popular silhouettes ever in a colorway dedicated to the WNBA.
First released in 1988, the Air Jordan 3 remains as one of the favorite numbered Air Jordan shoes for sneaker enthusiasts everywhere. Made iconic by colorways like the “Black Cement” and “True Blue,” the silhouette is a timeless classic and constantly sees new iterations and updated colorways. This upcoming “Desert Camo” colorway will be a unique derivative for the brand, experimenting with new patterns for their newest collaboration.
Taking the shape of a classic Air Jordan 3, this pair will feature a unique all-camouflage upper comprised of Dark Driftwood/Sail-Hemp-Velvet Brown. Typically sporting the iconic elephant print along the mudguards, this edition will forgo the detail and stick with the desert camo theme throughout the entire upper. Whether or not the shoes were a direct nod to Michael Jordan’s camo shorts at his NASCAR event is still in question, but the colorway remains clean nonetheless.
The major details on this pair will include a white Jumpman logo on the tongue, along with black Jordan logos on the heel tab. The sneakers are based on a white midsole and will feature gum-bottom outsoles. The hallmark detail is the white insole featuring the WNBA logo in its signature orange color.
All in all, this is a solid debut colorway for the WNBA x Jordan Brand partnership and we should expect to see some WNBA stars and coaches rocking these on the bench. The WNBA Air Jordan 3 “Desert Camo” is set to release July 13, 2024 and will be made available on Nike SNKRS app and select Jordan Brand retailers. They will come with a price tag of $200 and will arrive in women’s sizing, so be sure to adjust shoe sizes accordingly when purchasing these. It’s still unknown how limited they will be, but this being the first crossover between WNBA and Jordan Brand, we should expect these to see a successful release.
