Mauricio Pochettino’s Reaction: Insights on Chelsea Win, Reece James Red Card, Mykhailo Mudryk Injury P.3

How pleased are you?

“So happy for the players, they deserve the full credit for the way that we worked, our approach to the game and the way we tried to apply all of the work we were doing on the training ground. I am proud. To face a team like Brighton is always difficult here. We are so happy because the three points mean we are closer to achieving what we want.”

Did you see the Reece James red card?

“No I didn’t see. It’s difficult to give my opinion because I didn’t have time to see the action. But it’s painful [for us] because it’s a fantastic night of football and he’s a really important player. Now he is going to miss the next game and a few games next season.”

What did you make of the physicality and is Mudryk okay?

“No, he is not okay, we are checking. He was a little bit dizzy but we used the concussion substitution and the rule is seven days so he is not going to be available for the next game but I hope it is nothing wrong.”

What was your view on that incident?

“Again, like the Reece James [incident] I did not see and it is difficult to judge an action that sometimes happens in football.”

Will finishing sixth be a success?

“I don’t know. We have been all the season talking but it looks like my words are not important and no one cares. People only care about rumours and things like this. It’s not important, the most important thing is winning games for me. It has been tough with all the circumstances.”

Does this feel like your team?

“That is not my team. That’s Chelsea team. Not my team. What do you mean?”

Your style?

“I don’t know. After 15 years working at Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and now Chelsea, I think you know my style, no? In the way we want to play in possession and when we lose the ball. We have the trajectory in football.
