Liverpool defeated Fulham on Sunday to reclaim second place in the Premier League standings with a much-needed three points. The Reds, who had also been eliminated from the Europa League in midweek, had been keen to get back on track following a dismal run of games and outcomes.

At Craven Cottage, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the score with a beautiful free-kick. Timothy Castagne’s equalizer in the second half saw Ryan Gravenberch restore the lead.

Diogo Jota then wrapped up the win for Jürgen Klopp’s side but the Liverpool striker was wary about the way his side conceded just before the interval at Craven Cottage

“I have to say it was a bit childish from our side with the way we conceded,” Jota told Premier League Productions. “Obviously, this was their best momentum in the first half and we didn’t know how to control it.

“We had a chance to do it with a couple of goal kicks, we tried to play fast and I don’t think it was a clever thing to do and we conceded. That’s football and that’s Premier League. But I am really pleased with the way we reacted and controlled the game in the second half.”

Liverpool is back in action in the Merseyside derby against Everton in midweek and another three points will put Klopp’s side four points clear of Manchester City, who would have two games in hand. The Reds boss admitted after Sunday’s win that his side may have to win all five of their remaining matches to finish the season top of the pile.

“It’s the run-in now, no interruptions any more, no internationals or Europe — we can all concentrate on the league and that’s what we will do,” Klopp said.

“Maybe fortune will be on our side, but we have to win as many games as possible, get as many points, have lucky moments. It will be intense and an interesting race all the way.”
