The insider’s eye-opening claim is that Brentford may accept as little as £30 million in a summertime “all-in” deal for striker Ivan Toney, given his contract’s expiration date and his dismal return to Premier League action after his betting ban.

Just six months have passed since the striker’s double-digit numbers were first quoted.

Plettenberg claims that “many clubs” are interested, notably mentioning Chelsea and Arsenal by nаme. Are we actually in the race, though? Is Toney a player that is truly worth it, and a significant enough upgrade?

The one who deviates from the norm?

Toney doesn’t really suit the model we’re currently aiming for, which is what has made a relocation feel implausible thus far. The emphasis has been on extremely young athletes, which has little to do with 28-year-old Toney, whose worth is only going to decline as he gets closer to thirty.

However, regulations are meant to be broken, so you would have to suppose—and hope—that they are being taken into consideration when a deal this good comes up. This team has suffered greatly from a lack of experience, so it may be quite helpful to add a seasoned Premier League goal scorer to the mix.
