Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez stated that his country is “up for great things” as they prepare for the upcoming Copa América in the US in June. He also voiced his enthusiasm for the potential participation of renowned striker Luis Suárez.
“We’ve already demonstrated against Brazil and Argentina that we have a lot of young players with exceptional abilities. “We’re all here in the national team and at big clubs for a reason,” he told the press after arriving in Uruguay for the national team’s training camp.
Núñez stated that the Copa América will be approached gradually, with the goal of advancing from the group stage and then “fighting for every match and doing our best” to win the continental event.
The Liverpool forward did not hide his desire for Suárez to be included in the final team by Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, whom he admires and refers to as “a great guy.”
“He jokes a lot with the younger players, and I’ll be delighted if he gets to the Copa América since he’s always willing to help us out. “He has extensive experience with the national team, which is always beneficial for us,” Núñez stated.
Uruguay will begin their Copa América campaign on June 23 against Panama at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. They are in Group C, alongside the hosts, the United States and Bolivia.
